Genealogy gifts: an animated film of your family's history
The best genealogy gifts turn research into something a family will actually sit down and share. Forebear Films makes short animated films of a family's history, researched from genealogical records, with a sourced fact sheet, a script the family approves, and an original score. Black Friday prices start at $599 for about 5 minutes, and every film ordered by November 30, 2026 is delivered by December 20.
Common genealogy gifts, compared
| Gift | Good for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| DNA test | Finding relatives and ethnicity estimates | Gives data, not a story |
| Framed family tree or pedigree chart | Display on a wall | Names and dates, little narrative |
| Records-site or society membership | The active researcher | Recurring cost; they still do the work |
| Family history book | Deep reading and reference | Can take months to produce |
| Recorded memoir or interview service | Capturing a living parent's voice | Covers one life, not earlier generations |
| Forebear animated film | Ancestors no one alive remembers, shared on one screen | Uses AI animation; dramatized lines are labeled |
Who a film fits
A film works best for the person who has already built the tree, or for a family that has names and dates but no shared sense of who those people were. Tell us who the film is about, share FamilySearch IDs if you have them, and we do the research. See how it works and which records we use.
